    What a wonderful conversation. I loved the discussion around Blake's gold leaf, so technically challenging. Such dedication to the Artist's hard work. I think Blake would have been moved by the care given to his work.

    Loved this. New to these Blake Society videos. Definitely going to become a member. Have to be honest its the first that I've heard of Blake's Irish background. The person at the end mentioned it. Think I've heard it alluded to but other seemed to have ignored it or not given it much time. Really would like to find out more as think it's too important not to explore. Great work guys.

    Mr Blake thought Christianity had been turned upside down. So the institutional Christianity is like the Pharisees or corrupt Israel that the prophets, including Jesus, detest. The English, French, American radicals, however, sound like the old prophets. This is some apocalypse.

    Some folio books, although sewn, good quality and beautiful, nevertheless still don't lie flat. Some of them close themselves if not held open as they are sewn slightly differently to the others that lie open. I wish they would state which type of sewing is used on each book on the website. I value the lie flat books more highly and it would be better to know before buying. I have both types by Folio Society and they are both excellent. However, I prefer the lie flat ones slightly more especially for larger books; they just seem more premium and are more comfortable to read. A book that lies flat when open tends to have a little triangular hollow at the spine when open. To me this is the sign of a well bound book.

    I'm trying to locate the source of the Blake quote on opening the "doors of perception"'. It was later used as a book title by Aldous Huxley and then by Jim Morrison and company as the name of a rock group. Anybody know where I can find it?

    • @DonnaEmerald8
      @DonnaEmerald8 6 месяцев назад

      "The Marraige of Heaven and Hell" “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” (Sounds like a reference to Plato's Cave allegory to me). The Huxley book's a very good read, as was Burrough's "The Naked Lunch" on the same topic, drugs.

    Regarding that man’s question about Buddhism as a substitute for psychoanalysis, I will say that self reflection is like a self enchanting mirror. You are approaching all new information from your pre-existing mental models/constructs and you will be resistant to anything non-habitual. You need another person to help you break that enchantment and have you see things from a different perspective otherwise you’re essentially stuck in a loop.

    To understand Blake you have feel after it. Intellectually it will make no sense. If you relax, and just take the information in without analyzing the truth of the poem will gradually start to appear.

    I love this, but it's also naive. Blake was a radical supernaturalist - he not only identified with a real spiritual world, he claimed to visit it like a museum or university town - he went as far as to say all significant good and evil came from spirits - like his heroes in the Bible and especially the New Testament. Reducing him rationally is to fundamentally misread and misunderstand him, as even armies of his admirers do.

    Thank you Patrick for your wonderful books. I love your moving our perspective from consciousness to imagination, as it rather gives us a hands on response in it's use. I would like to make a comment about the experience of the journey of Soul. So many of us have been through, or are in, " the valley of the shadow" For, it seems, we are in the death throes of a dying culture. I would have liked to have heard more of that. The internet has connected many to this process, this making the journey less lonely. Synchronicity as a conduit to the imagination is the focus of insight open discussion with a psychiatrist Bernard Bietmann. He has written on the power of synchronicity to move us in the direction of, well at least, the Imaginal and it's role on psychotherapy. That is releasing us from neuroses to participation. Recently he interviewed Rick Tarnas, some pearls there. So thanks again all of you.
